The Simplot Education Council received 2,204 nominations honoring 407 standout teachers across District 25. We’ll be showcasing our finalists daily through Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, three educators—one from each level: elementary, middle, and high school—will be named this year’s Simplot Inspirational Teacher Award winners. All finalists receive a $100 award, and the top teacher in each category will take home a $500 prize from the Council.

Things You Should Know:

Learning. As we enter the month of May, we are excited to wrap up a wonderful year of learning at Tyhee! Our students have worked incredibly hard all year, and this is their time to finish strong and show all they know. Every school day counts as we continue building skills, celebrating growth, and giving students opportunities to demonstrate their learning. We encourage families to support strong attendance, maintain routines, and keep students motivated through these final weeks. Together, we can help every student end the year with confidence and pride in their accomplishments!

7 Habits Spotlight.

As we finish the school year, we are focusing on Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw—Take Care of Yourself! This habit reminds us that taking care of our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits helps us be our very best. After a busy year of learning, it’s important for students to find balance by getting enough rest, staying active, spending time with loved ones, and doing things they enjoy. Families can support this at home by encouraging healthy routines, outdoor play, reading together, and taking time to relax and recharge. When we take care of ourselves, we are better prepared to finish the year strong and head into summer feeling happy, healthy, and proud! Attendance. The school year’s end is in sight, but every day still offers valuable learning. End-of-year events, tests, and celebrations all help build your child’s confidence and skills. Avoid early checkouts and extended absences if possible. Let’s finish strong, because learners don’t just attend school, they belong in every single moment.

Safety and bullying.

Spring time seems to bring about what we refer to at school as the “Spring Meanies”. Please note, not everything that's mean is actually bullying. Use the chart below to understand the difference between bullying, conflict, and a mean moment. Encourage your children to report problems to their teacher and the staff on recess duty. We want all of our learners to be safe!                            

Counselor’s Corner

During May counseling lessons, we will be finishing up with the skill of problem-solving. Students have been working on solving social problems by using STEP: Say the Problem Respectfully, Think of Solutions, Explore Outcomes, and Pick a Good Solution. Things You Should Know:

Learning. April is an exciting time at Tyhee as our students have the opportunity to shine and show what they know! After months of learning, growing, and practicing new skills, this is their moment to demonstrate their progress and confidence. Families can play an important role in supporting success by ensuring students get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive on time, and feel encouraged to do their best. A little extra positivity and reassurance at home can go a long way in helping students feel confident and ready to succeed. Let’s work together to celebrate their hard work and help every student finish strong!

 7 Habits Spotlight.  At Tyhee, we are excited to focus on Habit 6: Synergize—Together is Better! This habit teaches students that working with others and valuing different ideas can lead to better solutions than working alone. When students learn to listen, share, and collaborate, they build stronger relationships and develop important problem-solving skills.

Synergy benefits both students and families by encouraging teamwork, respect, and open-minded thinking. It helps children understand that everyone has unique strengths to contribute and that differences can be a powerful asset. Families can practice Habit 6 at home by involving children in family decisions, encouraging them to listen to others’ ideas, and working together on tasks like cooking, planning activities, or solving problems. Attendance. As nature reawakens, so can good habits! Prioritize sleep, hydration, and nutritious snacks to fuel focus. Things You Should Know:

Learning. Come joins us at our Student-Led Conference Open House on this coming Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9 a.m. to Noon. Your child(ren) are excited to share their wildly important goals, leadership roles, learning progress, and celebrations. Please plan to attend during one of the two open house times. Your child’s teacher may reach out for an individual conference, or you may contact the teacher if you would like a one-on-one conference. Thank you for supporting your child’s education.

Leadership.  In February, we are focusing on Habit 4, Think Win Win! Habit 4 teaches children to look for solutions where everyone can be successful. Instead of trying to “win” at someone else’s expense, students learn to listen, share, and work together so all people feel respected and valued. At home, families can support this habit by encouraging cooperation, compromise, and problem-solving that works for everyone. Shout Out. We appreciate our school resource officer, Deputy Rollene, all of the Bannock County deputies that stop by, and our DARE officer, Casey Hollowell. They take such good care of us! SRO Appreciation Day is February 15th. Let’s show them all some love this month!

Things You Should Know:

Learning. At school, your student is learning how to set goals for learning and for life. They write their goals in their Leadership Portfolio. Ask your student to share their goals with you, they will love talking about something that matters to them! Listen closely and ask questions before giving advice. That’s practicing and modeling Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. Your student might tell you about their WIG. That’s short for Wildly Important Goal! It is part of The 4 Disciplines of Execution® (4DX®)—the way our school helps students choose and reach their goals. Ask your student what their WIG is and how they are working on it. You can help by posting their goal at home and cheering them on.

Leadership. Attendance. Belonging begins with Showing Up! Kick off 2026 by recommitting to being On Time, In School, Every Day. Winter weather can pose challenges, so plan now – build weather-ready wardrobes and backup rides. Showing up sends a message: “I’m here. I’m learning. I belong.” Safety Reminders. Things You Should Know:

Learning. A huge thank-you to all of our Tyhee families who came out to our Cookies & Claus STEM Night! We were thrilled to see such an amazing turnout and so many smiling faces engaged in handson learning. Our LEGO engineering challenges and robot coding stations were a big hit, and it was wonderful to watch students and families explore, build, and create together. Thank you also for supporting our annual food drive, and book fair. They have been a huge success! We appreciate your support in making events like this so special for our school community.

Leadership. As a Leader in Me School, one of our 5 Core Paradigms is that parents and teachers partner to support the whole child. What this means is that we value you as your student’s first teacher. You know your student best. It’s easy to assume that teachers are the only ones who are responsible for a student’s academic and social success in school. As a parent of a Leader in Me student, we believe that you are a valuable member of our Learning Team. You have an important role in the educational journey of your student. In December, our lessons and activities are centered around Habit 3: Put First Things First. Here is a link so that you can talk to your child(ren) about how your family can use Habit 3 to Work First, Then Play!  

Attendance. December brings joy and holiday excitement, but don’t let routines slide! Keeping consistent school attendance helps learners stay connected and focused. Mark holiday events on the calendar and building reminder for school days. Let’s finish the calendar year strong with the message that learning, laughter, and belonging happen at PCSD 25 every day.

PTO News: Wanting to get involved in your child’s school? Attending PTO meetings is a great way to get involved and support our school!  

 

Students from the Mathematics Education Association, accompanied by their advisor Dr. Allison Roxburgh, and students from the College of Education Club, participated in the family STEM night yesterday at Tyhee Elementary School for an evening of service sponsored by the Office of Field Experience! Jodi Prestwich, the school's principal, expressed appreciation for the school's ongoing partnership with the College of Education, saying, Your students were outstanding! We look forward to continuing our service learning initiatives in local schools!

Learning. Thank you to those who were able to attend Parent Teacher Conferences. Students whose parents stay involved in school have better attendance and behavior, get better grades, demonstrate better social skills and adapt better to school. Your involvement sets your child(ren) up to develop a lifelong love of learning, which is key to long-term success! Tyhee is a school where everyone can be a leader and lead their own learning. So far, we have been working on BEING PROACTIVE and this month we will focus on Habit 2:BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND. When students practice Habit 2, they learn to set clear goals and make thoughtful decisions that align with their long-term vision. This habit helps them stay focused, motivated, and organized, as they understand the purpose behind their actions. By thinking ahead and planning with their goals in mind—whether academic, personal, or otherwise—they are more likely to make choices that lead to success and personal growth. This habit empowers students to take control of their future with confidence and direction.

Fall into routines that stick! Now is a great time to create reliable morning and evening routines. Prep lunchboxes, backpacks, and outfits the night before to avoid morning stress. Staying “On Time, In School, Every Day” helps learners keep up and stand out. When learners feel prepared and supported, they show up to school confident and ready. Safety. Please do not drop your child off at school before 7:30. The playground is not supervised until then. All adults must check into the office before entering the playground during school hours. ~ We will be creating a new drop off video the morning of Tuesday, October 7th. An employee from the SD25 district office will be out front filming our process for future Tyhee community members. We appreciate how well drop off is going and are sure that we will get great footage of our routine. No students will be filmed close up for safety reasons. Notifications. PTO News:
Please come support our Tyhee Color Run on Friday, 10/10. See flyer for grade level run times. Students raise pledges and you can buy color to throw on kids. Fundraising efforts go toward purchasing a color poster printer for our school.

We’re so glad your family is part of our school! We are excited to work together with you and your child. As a Leader in Me School, we believe that everyone in your family has greatness, and we look forward to learning and growing with you. Leader in Me is based on research and was created as a way to give students the leadership and life skills they need to succeed today and in the future.

Through the 7 Habits lessons, each child becomes their best self and finds their voice. As each child discovers their unique strengths, they are given opportunities to lead, become more confident, responsible, and ready to take action. They also learn to listen to others, work as a team, and help each other do their best. Let’s work together and help every child grow this year!

Time, In School, Every Day" build momentum that leads to lifelong success. Strong achievement begins with strong attendance.

~ Thank you for following our drop-off procedures! It is helping drop off time go so much smoother, and we always want our learners and families to be safe. Be sure to use the marked crosswalks to cross lanes of traffic.

~ Remember, parents/guardians are not allowed on the playground during school hours without checking into the office first.

We crowned our new Miss Chief Tyhee Princess, Sophia Ponzo, today and held our annual Pow Wow. 1st through 3rd place attendants are Taleah Coby, Kalenna Edmo, and Marley Kindness. Congratulations girls! We’re very proud of you. Thanks Chloe Thomas for representing Tyhee for last year!

Please join us in congratulating Simplot Inspirational Teacher of the Year finalist, Haley Luce. Ms. Luce teaches 5th grade at Tyhee Elementary School.

This year, the Simplot Education Council received 2,377 nominations for 398 teachers in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25. Finalists will be featured daily through Thursday, May 9, 2024. Three Simplot Inspirational Teacher Awards will be announced on Friday, May 10, 2024 – one for a teacher at the elementary, middle and high school levels. In addition, 5 finalists have been selected for each category and each will be awarded a $100 check. The Simplot Inspirational Teacher Award Recipients of 2024 will each be presented a $500 check on behalf of the Council.
